Today is our 14th Wedding Anniversary. And though we’ve had our ups and downs I can honestly say that I love my wife more today than I did 14 years ago.
NeoOffice is a Mac version of the OpenOffice.org software. The latest version has been given an Aqua makeover. Until today the aqua version has only been available to those stumping up cash to join the Early Access Program. I’m looking forward to giving it a whirl. You can download it here:

Who remembers “Global Hypercolor” T-shirts from the late 80’s? They were the coolest thing since airtex shirts for at least 20 minutes, using fabric that changed colour depending on temperature. Because most people want to hide the fact that their armpits are warmer than the rest of their body rather than advertise the fact, it’s not their rapid demise that puzzled me so much as how they ever became de rigeur in the first place. But there’s never been any rationale to fashion that I can follow. This trip down memory lane was prompted by a BBC news article today about high tech fabrics. I’ll be interested to see if these do any better than their predecessors. Maybe they’ll prompt a Global Hypercolor resurgence. I’m off to rummage through my T-shirt drawer. I feel an ebay listing coming on…
I was sent a link to a definition of a Tom Swifty . Clever word play always appeals to me, but I’d not ome across these before. A great example was: “Who discovered radium?” asked Marie Curiously.
Please comment your own examples.
At work Gerry came up with: “No you can’t get more money” said Tom derisively.
And I just couldn’t stop once I got started:
“I had to buy a replacement pair of glasses” said Tom respectfully.
“but I’ve lost them again” said Tom disrespectfully.
“where’s my plus-fours?”, Tom added.
“Put him back in the cells”, Tom deliberated.
“Louisiana Sunset”, Tom trumpeted.
“web designer gets 4 stars”, Tom elaborated.
“I shaved last month!”, Tom bristled.
“Keep digging”, said Tom gravely.
“There’s not much water” said Tom shallowly.
“I’m giving up chocolate again” said Tom relentingly.
“On second thoughts I won’t bother” said Tom unrelentingly.
“I swallowed a drawing pin”, said Tom tactfully.
“I’m bound to get out of here if I keep turning left”, said Tom amazedly.
“I’ll have some more meat”, said Tom revealingly

I messed a little with iWeb and finally uploaded the main pages of http://www.talkrhubarb.com. I quite like iWeb from the style point of view. For simple sites it really is very good. The problem is it doesn’t integrate well with any other web app. There probably is an easier way to change the link on the navigation bar so that the “blog” link points here rather than at the iWeb page but I ended up manually editing the html. Not good, as whenever I update iWeb and publish - it’s going to overwrite those files. I was interested in seeing if there was a decent web editor for Mac that would be an alternative for those not prepared to shell out the big bucks on Dreamweaver. The best I found is Pagespinner. While you edit the text, the app has a viewer that updates dynamically, showing you what your page is going to look like. It has CSS and javascript support too, which is what I was looking for, and it’s only $30. I tried Sandvox a while back, and while it was a decent enough WSIWIG editor, it was too difficult to edit the underlying CSS and so I gave up, although using the stock templates produced a good enough looking site.
Now all I need is to upgrade this blog to wordpress 2. And this is s’posed to be my day off…
I’ve uploaded a few pics from our family holiday in France this summer.
I’ve uploaded a few pics of Pip’s 1st day at school onto FLickr.
Well that’s it. Pip started school today. She’s been lookng forward to it for ages and has burst into tears when told that to begin with, she’s starting later and finishing earlier than her big sisters. Our friend’s kid commented: “I don’t know why you’re so excited. School’s boring”. But our littlest remained undaunted, and has recovered from only doing a couple of hours today. Her teacher remembers holding her as a baby because Faith was in her class when Pip was born.
Faith also started school today - secondary school that is. She didn’t have her wee sister’s excitement at the prospect, but that’s impending adolescence for you!
As a parent I think how true it is that time flies when you’re having fun. I’m beginning to sound old so I’ll stop there…
