Dropsend

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

With Yahoo! mail and Gmail offering at least 1Gb of storage, it’s always disappointed me that attachments are limited to 10Mb. While there are ways round this, none have passed my WMMDI test (Would My Mum Do It?). But that’s where Dropsend comes in. Their free solution allows 5 files a month up to 250Mb files to be transferred from an applet downloaded to the desktop. There are paid for options offering up to a Gb and unlimited transfers. Brilliant! Best of all they’re a small UK startup based in Bath. It’s another one of those “Why didn’t I think of that” apps, that proves that you don’t needa huge amount of capital to make money on the internet.

Joy gets me thinking

The great thing about kids is that they keep asking questions. I’m often surprised by how insightful and interesting the perspective of a little one is. For instance, I was taking Joy and Pip to the park today and the weather was surprisingly blustery. Joy(6) asked me “Daddy, what’s the wind for?” She knew what the wind did but hadn’t figured out why. I said something about the wind bringing other kinds of weather like clouds and rain and snow. I didn’t mention that it was so kites could fly. Does anyone have a better/wittier/funnier answer?

Apple does Windows

There’s been a lot of activity in the hacker community trying to get the new intel based macs to run XP. Now Apple have released there own beta app which makes the process a whole lot easier. You can download bootcamp beta here. The thing that struck me immediately was that here was a disk partitioning utility that looked pretty good. Unfortunately my mac mini 40Gb disk is too full already to make use of it!
