Clyde 1 Donkey Ears Arrive!
I’ve not listened to Radio Clyde for a number of years now, so it was with some surprise that a number of colleagues this morning happened to mention that George Bowie’s “Daily Donkey” - someone nominated by a vindictive friend, relative or colleague for a silly remark they’ve made- was sent in by none other than yours truly. I couldn’t remember the details but I must have sent the email sometime between November 2000 and December 2001. They must have been really scraping the bottom of the barrel to just get around to it today. Particularly when it wasn’t very funny. It reminds of the thirty-somethings that occasionally appeared on “Jim’ll Fix It” because when they were seven they’d asked if they could drive a steam engine but it had taken the producers 25 years to pick them.
I still have a question for Clyde1 though: it’s taken them so long to use my donkey story that the email I sent it from is now defunct. Now there’s no way they can get in touch with me to get an address to send me my donkey ears. I must say I’m gutted.
UPDATE: Guess what arrived on my desk this morning? Yip - those aforementioned donkey ears! Yes, they are very fetching. No, I am not posting pics on the blog. Delivered to a department that no longer exists of a company that no longer exists. Just goes to show that with an unusual surname and the right post code even the Royal Mail can usually find you.
I’m glad I got my mini at the refurb store. How green would I have been if I’d paid top dollar for a top of the range mini last month, only to discover a far superior machine announced this week. The new machines have audio in and 4 usb ports. The lack of audio in and only 2 USB ports are the two things that have slightly bugged me with my “old” mini.
Over at Macworld there’s an article on the integrated graphics of the new mac mini. I must admit that this was one area I wondered about. Onthe PC side, integrated graphics generally lag the performance of dedicated cards. The other surprising omission is the lack of integrated TV tuner. I know I’m not alone in thinking this would make the mini the perfect PVR. But most telling for me is the fact that Ian’s not buying one and he’s my litmus test for how “essential” the latest gadgets are…
